Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, one of my favorite shows on the Food Network is accepting submissions for places they can visit in their upcoming season. Generally they look for local, family-owned type of joints that make kick-ass food. I was thinking about the Fort and I'm pretty sure they could do an entire episode just on our local flavors. I want to give them a good list of places to visit in Fort Wayne, so I'm compiling now. Any suggestions for additions/subtractions? Here's the list as it stands now.

Power's
Cindy's Diner
Hall's Drive-In
Downtown Pizza
Munchie's Emporium
Coney Island
Klemm's
King Gyro's
Chuckwagon

Power's and Cindy's...maybe Coney Island, are the only ones I'd think would get a shot.

I'm trying to think of other local eateries...but nothing is coming to mind. I don't think Hall's has good enough food to be showcased. King Gyro's, which I love, doesn't seem to fit the type of place they usually go to.

I'd definitely submit Power's and Cindy's...the rest...seem a little ho-hum, but I suppose the more you submit, the better the chance for getting on the show, and that would be pretty cool!

Cool idea, although...is there something special about the King Gyros here versus all the other ones around? It's not just here in the Fort.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...I love gyros, but you can get good ones in most cities and I wasn't feeling anything special about ours in town. I mean, just go to Chicago and you'll find hundreds of dives that serve better quality food of this variety...

I kinda feel the same about local coneys. There are much better cities to hit for a great coney dog...

I'd be pissed if I were Guy Fieri and came all the way to FW for the Munchie Emporium.

We have friends who live in Chicago and stop by the Goshen Road King Gyros EVERY time they are in town. The swear it's better than they get there.

"King" gyros is the same in name only.

Its all about the preperation, freshness, quantity, quality, recipe and effort.

Rack & Helen's in New Haven

I've never a bad meal/experience there. Sausage Rolls = the chronic.
