Don't you mean, "at"?
Yes, I did mean at. By mistake I said "of", so now I am backtracking to make it seem as if I did it on purpose. Hopefully by posting this I can avoid people making fun of me or poking fun at me. I then decided to use a word like "amalgam" so I'll sound more intelligent, therefore discouraging any further ridicule. :)
Ha!!! Yup, that's Garr...if I had a nickel for every time he admitted he misstated/mistyped something, well, I'd still be waiting for a nickel:)

Just for the record, Garr is infallible and anything you think he made a mistake with, he actually did for a reason, so don't bother pointing it out!!!

Silencio wrote:There's little prepositional choice (and none in this case): it's almost always an agreement issue. One "pokes at," one does not "poke of."

"Johnny, stop poking of your food."

"Never poke of a hornet's nest with a stick."

"You know, middle of the afternoon, when your hunger's pokin' of ya, pokin' of ya..."
What you're missing here, though, is that there is an extra noun in the prepositional phrase. It's poking fun. I can poke fun of, poke fun at, poke fun over, poke fun around, or poke fun after or a whole host of other prepositions because of that subject agreement of poking fun. Consider the phrase "make fun of" and take the word fun out.

"Johnny, stop making of your food."

"Never make of a hornet's nest with a stick."

"You know, middle of the afternoon, when assholes are makin' of ya, makin' of ya. . ."

Now, throw that indirect object back in there, and EVERY one of those sentences agree. Strange, that.

Despite the rude an inappropriate personal attacks at me, I knew precisely what I was doing and saying and contrary to the implications made there, I'm one of the first people to admit my mistakes and do so all the time.

Normally a thread bearing personal attacks like that would be locked down, but I'd just get more crap from people claiming that I am abusing my power.

Notice the  in my post. I really was just having fun with you. My sincere apologies.

I wouldn't think you're abusing your power BUT I *do* think you're overreacting. I don't think they were personal attacks by ANY means. I think they were playful posts possibly teasing you a bit, which is something EVERYONE...even you...is guilty of doing in the past.

Most of the time I would agree with you about a solid ribbing. I normally give as good as I get, but I feel that some of the comments were beyond jesting and out of line. I'm not denying my sensitivity here, but insults are being made directly at me which is different (to me) than making fun of something I said. That's all.

You can poke fun of my usage of "poke fun of" as much as you want, and that's cool. I'm secure in my expression and just because someone else would use the words differently doesn't bother me. That's not the issue. I can handle it in the ways that I responded by explaining my usage. I can't, however, stand up against some of the other comments made about me personally as opposed to an incorrectly perceived grammatical error.

There's stuff going on behind the scenes... Garr overreacted to the stuff here. That's all... no worries.

I disagree. I don't think I overreacted. However, others might. As far as I'm concerned, make fun of me all you want. Don't attack me in a personal and inflammatory manner. . .on these boards. Make fun of what I said/wrote all you want. I'll defend it where I can, or step up to the dumbass award where I should, but this (to me) went beyond that.
