Every geek's paycheck even further in danger. . .

Now you got Guitar Center, and an Apple Computer dealer next door! Signature Mac just opened on Coliseum.

Just put in a Gordon Food Service and another Hyde Brothers Books next to those two and I will go home Fridays with my paycheck completely spent!

There is no more Hyde Brothers. . .

They parted ways and Joel (I think) opened his own store on Crescent Avenue next to Hazelwood. It's called "Every Other Book" because that was how they split the business. He got every other book.

Hyde Brothers? Never heard of it...what kind of books did they sell? Used? A specific genre?

With Signature Mac next door to Guitar Center, my credit card is suddenly producing a strange, audible hum.

Hyde Brothers was a used, new, and collector's bookstore on Wells Street near the intersection at Fourth Street. It was there longer that I've been alive.

Thanks. Maybe I'll check out the new place on Crescent then...I'm always interested in a good, used book!

Just for reference, the store on Wells is still there too. It's just not Hyde Brothers anymore.

Cool...

I've only been to a handful of used book stores in town, and hadn't really found much that I wanted to pick up...this gives me a couple more options!

Not to mention the smells. If someone could formulate old book smell and bottle it, they'd make a fortune...

Just walking through that place raises your IQ by at least 10 points. :)

Heh. Another Mac v. PC rant coming. . .I can hear it now.

The IBM compatibles had such great success because of licensing, really. They allowed practically any manufacturer to build on their technology and Intel did amazing things. I really believe that Intel and IBM's marketing strategy for early personal computers were what set them apart.

I remember in the early '80s that Apple practically ruled the market as far as educational use was concerned. All the schools had Apple IIc or Apple IIe machines. Commodore and Amiga made a good go at it, even Atari tried to get in the game, but the extensibility of the IBM framework allowed them to surpass Apple. The first two personal computers I owned were Apples. Of course, my parents owned them, not me, but I also had an Amiga and a Commodore 64k. None of them were anywhere near as awesome as the first 386 I owned. Shiat!
