Ironically, my wife pulled a virus onto her laptop last night. AVG took care of it though...
So, point and case, if you don't accept downloads that you are 100% sure of what you are getting from a legitimate source, you are likely going to prevent 99% of virii hitting your machine. You could also take the higher road and use an alternative to Windows (its a lot easier than it sounds) and not have to worry about the majority of this malware, spyware and trojan horse crap...
