Did you like your name as a child?

Post by The_Dude »

I hated mine. I couldn't ever imagine being an adult and having Eric as a name. I didn't know any "old people" named Eric and just thought it seemed so foreign. I always wanted my name to be Mike. I always told myself I would change it when I could but obviously I never did. Duh.

My buddy wanted his name to be Bo. What a Mark Prior.

Now that I think of it...99% of the people here probably didn't know my first name until now.

I went as Anthony until middle school, then I was Tony, then around Junior/Senior year people started calling me Anthony. Incidentally, int he 7th grade, my "friends" Matt Stonebraker and Jim Trolio gave me the nickname, "Garr." It seems to have stuck. People who didn't even know me then were calling me Garr as an "adult" so I just adopted it and decided not to fight in futility.

People made fun of my name as a kid. Of course I didn't go by my full name then. I went by Jambi. I also didn't like it because I could never get any of those cool things with the names printed on it. As I got older I started to like it and now I LOVE it. :D

I liked and still like my name. I was stoked to find that the letter "S" started a whole bunch of different words, oftentimes many more than others. As a kid, I would sign my name on classwork different ways, using initials, full name and varieties in between.

Debbie?!?!

That was YOU?

Sorry, Ollie. No hard feelings?
I always liked my name just fine. I'm also amazed at the people that think 'Tiny' is somehow not a politically correct thing to call me, or that I might be offended. Hell, I've been Tiny for over 20 years. Any hurt feelings are more than vanquished by now.

Besides that, it was meant as a compliment originally anyway. SO there.

Even tho the Mrs and I know your name we *still* call you Sankofa in our conversations.

What do you prefer?

I think it would be a good filter for you to know who "knows" you and who is an acquaintance.

The only time I like Sankofa is when I'm on stage, anytime after that my given name comes into play.
