I always hated the first day of school with a new teacher...my birthname is Daniel, but it was always a 50/50 chance that I would get called Danielle. I never understood how a teacher could be so retarded as to not be able to tell the difference...oh well.

Side note: Whenever I would call Garr in high school and get his mom, I would ask for Afernee...she either played along or never knew the difference...I always got a laugh out of it:)

YOU hated the first day of school. Have a teacher try to pronounce Jambrea and then tell me you had problems. :D Not to mention the fact that I was in a different school system every year until the 6th grade. I have gotten use to people not knowing how to say my name and it doesn't bother me any more. As for Anthony, I think his mom still calls him Afernee sometimes. :D

I always liked my first name (Josh), but since about 5th grade no one has called me that (except my mom). There are around 17.2 billion Joshes in the state of Indiana (perhaps hyperbole), so everyone called me by my last name. At the age of 10 I became Spall, and it stuck.

Interestingly, in my adult life I've become close friends with a couple of other Joshes, both of whom can tell a similar story. It's not that there are no old men named Josh - we all just go by something different because there are entirely too many of us.

I dig my name Jenn Nickell-not bad not too offensive nor too confusing except--several people call me by my last name--nickell, which upon occasion sounds like "nicole". There is a girl named nicole a few years older than me that people mistake me for all the time. It really sucks when someone at a bar or a coffeeshop walks up and hugs you and it's partially your fault for responding to the wrong name. It makes for awkward conversations and misrepresentations. for the record I have no children.

I was called Ken, up till I went to college. Then people started calling me Kenny. I don't know why, cute girls were calling me Kenny so I let them. After leaving college and joining the real world, no one called me Kenny.

People always ask me what nationality my name is or if it is a family name. But that is not the case. My mom just had a good imagination. :D

i used to wish my name was "julie". not sure why, really?
because my first and middle name combo is quite pretty!
and my middle name spelling is cooler than the common "lee".
i know that now.
no matter what, i've always been super-glad that my mom didn't name me as she intended:
if i were male: benjamin arthur (ouch!)
if i were female: jane eileen (gross!!)

whatever. most days i don't even remember that my real name isn't "bean"!

My grandparents (dad's parents) wanted to combine the names of my mom's dad and my dad's dad. I narrowly avoided being named Russell Arnold or Arnold Russell.

"arthur" is my maternal grandfather's name...
the rest of all that? don't know where that came from, except for the fact that my dad insisted my bro and i not be named after any family members (thus my bro's odd name- "burton". bah!).
ha! to the pops! he still doesn't realize that a great-aunt was named "laura"....
guess momala got the last laugh after all?

I've got a similar experience as Spall...from high school on, likely from playing sports, I was always just called by my last name. So, most of my friends from back then, still do that, while some of the friends I have made in the last few years, have tended towards calling me deek because there are several other Dan's in our circle of friends.
