This movie was about the Greeks LOSING (though kicking MUCH ass in the process) at ONE battle in the Greek-Persian war.

It was loosely based on historical accounts by Herodotus.

For people to get all political about this movie is effin' silly. For Iranians (or anyone else) to think that it is somehow catering towards hatred of any one people is also silly. It was a battle between Greeks and the Persian Empire. That means people roughly from the Mediterranian (Greek and Egypt) to as far East as India. For any one modern country to say "it creates disregard for OUR country" is really bold to say the least.

The movie was a great action flick, which had some great battle scenes and enough plot to make it coherent. I enjoyed seeing it. And it made me somewhat proud to have visited Greece last year and stand atop the Acropolis (which Xerxes army did eventually reach, raze and burn). There is a lot of history in Greece. The History Channel documentary was so bold as to say that the battle of the 300 was essential for democracy (very very bold statement) to have taken root in the Western world. Though I don't attribute that much to any one event in the past, the history of that part of the world is astounding. The movie made a good attempt at reflecting that heritage (ideologically rather than etnically).

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

Okay a lot of people are saying that 300 didn't follow actual history, which, as a Greek history buff, I don't see.

(You can't use Wikipedia as a valid resource, it's too easy for people to put in whatever they think is true.)
The names are even the same. The Oracle, the hot gates, Ephialtes the traitor, the Thespian volunteers.. even the quotes: "We shall fight in the shade", "Come and get them"...

So I don't see where Hollywood made a mess of it. And I don't have the History Channel, so forgive me if they explained it on there.
You know when you've found it because you feel it when they take it away.

At 8:00 pm tonight, the History Channel is running a show about the real 300. Looks pretty interesting.

I saw that program the day before I went to see 300, it is pretty good, and made following the movie a lilttle better

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle, as they used to say on the GI Joe cartoons. . . .

Finally saw 300 this afternoon. VERY cool film. I loved the cinematography and lighting - awesome. Although the movie appears to over dramatize things, it seems to fit somewhat closely to history.

Two thumbs up!!
