Competition doesn't need to happen in the economic marketplace. Why not experiment with various methods of management and logistics across the state and begin implementing the best practices everywhere as they're proven effective? (If that isn't already what's happening.) We'd decrease the cost (oh ...

Saturday at O's: The 1936 Chambers

The sh*t House Boys will be at O'Sullivans on Saturday the 27. Come party hard to the sounds of Woody Guthrie, The Band, Old Crow Medicine Show, Hank Williams Sr, and a bunch of originals you'd swear were written in 1936. We'll also be filling in for half of Deuce on Tuesday the 31st at the Latch St...

The bloatedness and slowness might be more a fault of the level corporate interests versus individual persons financially contribute to campaigns and actively watch the end results of those contributions. The government is incredibly quick in responding to the hands that feed it. I don't get the imp...

As a leftest academic, I'm more embarrassed that it took the university so long, honestly. The academic dishonesty accusations were well-documented and seriously undercut any valid points he may have.

BTW, how accurate were those thermometers back in 1876 in "Bumblef*ck, Oklahoma"? Popular complaint. I can't explain it, but if you read the blogs from climatologists (like realclimate.org), they occasionally attempt to explain how that's controlled for. I took a few years of statistics, and even I...

Re: Bass is a Role too

Quinsanity, I knew there was a reason I told you about this thread. Some one needs to come up with a snappy saying about guitarists playing five- and six-string barre chords non-stop.

(Worse than busy bassists: two-guitar bands where they play in unison except for the solo.)

Come tell a local politician what he can do with your cigar

Some one's going to kill me for that subject, but... well, they should have asked us about our political beliefs before booking us, eh? Tom Henry - the Democratic Party candidate for mayor - will be at Deer Park Friday night (July 20) for the start of a trolley ride around town. I think the festivit...

They haven't gotten rid of us yet!

We'll also be there this Friday (July 20) with mayoral candidate Tom Henry. Come tell him what you think about this smoking ban while we entertain you with songs of narcotic use!!

(seriously, who thought we were a good band to let public figures stand next to?)

I might be further left than the Democrats (and unlike most elected Democrats I was against the war at the start), but even I don't understand the arguments for leaving with 1/5 of the job done.

bassjones wrote:I used to play tuba - it was my major instrument in college. I've been thinking about getting one and putting together a band to do some dirty dozen brass band sort of stuff.
Add some balkan brass band tunes, and you might even earn some indie points.

By other institutions, I meant corporations, banks, de facto monopolies, trade organizations, exchange markets, etc. Why single out government? The "free" market faces more hurdles than taxes. I'd rather attend a hundred school board meetings than a single business meeting. Easier on the stomach, an...

Some of my favorite bass (line) players play tuba. (Stir in some baritone on the up beat and add flugalhorn for flavor.)
